Tokyo Dome is a large stadium right in the middle of the city. It is the home field of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team (and hosts other events when there are no baseball games). With baseball being one of the most popular sports in Japan, a Giants game in the Tokyo Dome is quite a happening and today I had a chance to experience their game against the Seibu Lions.

I rooted for the Giants, but they lost the game and with only 5 players making it to the first base in 9 innings there was not much to root for. But although they lost and I’m not into baseball at all, it sure was a really nice experience. It was a great opportunity to experience the atmosphere during a Giants game (with Japanese music from the speakers and Japanese-style animations on the big screen with every nice move or homerun) and to view the Tokyo Dome from the inside. I was a bit disappointed by the fact that they didn’t sell hot dogs with chocolate, though…

A Giants game is probably the best reason to visit the Tokyo Dome, but another reason to visit is the adjecent small amusement park. Attractions include a ferris wheel special for it’s centreless design and the Thunder Dolphin rollercoaster, which passes through the centre of the ferris wheel. I haven’t tried the Thunder Dolphin yet, but it definitly is on my to-do list! There also is a nice shopping mall and a spa and altogether the area is called Tokyo Dome City. The pictures below are obviously (the area being way less crowded) not taken today.
